Getting Directions with KMaps
Similar to Google Maps, KMaps lets you pick either the starting or the destination address first.
Scenario A:
You are looking for a restaurant. Use KMaps Search to perform a restaurant lookup...
KMaps will present the search results with your restaurant selected (if it can be found).
Since you need to get the directions from your present location to the selected restaurant, you will have to click "To Here" menu item from the menu indicating that the selected restaurant is the place where you want to go to.
KMaps will then present the Search screen again for you to enter the starting address. Enter your present address and when presented with the results, click "From Here" button.
KMaps will then come up with the directions.
Scenario B:
You are looking for a restaurant. Use KMaps Search to search for your present address first...
KMaps will present the search results with your present address selected (if it can be found). Since you need to get the directions from your present location to the restaurant, you will select "From Here" from the menu indicating that the present address is the place from where you want to start from. KMaps will then present the Search screen again for you to enter destination address. Perform a restaurant lookup and when presented with the results, select "To Here" from the menu. KMaps will then come up with the directions.
KMaps saves your last viewed directions automatically. You can exit KMaps, make a phone call and come back to look for the same directions by selecting "Last Saved Directions" menu item from KMaps entry screen.
The menu on directions screen gives you an option to save the directions in KMaps by some name so you can open them later from the KMaps starting screen using "Open Direct 188D ions" menu item. You can also email directions to someone. For example, if a friend of yours has a phone that can't access directions from Internet or a person on the street asks you for the directions you can use KMaps to get the directions and email them using "Send to EMail" menu item on directions screen. The majority (if not all) of the service providers will deliver a message if email is sent to <phone number>@<service>.com (for example, 6234567890@cingular.com). This way you can send directions to any phone by putting something like 6234567890@cingular.com in the message EMail field. The users will be able to read the directions on the other phones, but would not be able to map them as they don't have KMaps installed on their phones. You can also reverse directions by selecting "Reverse" menu item from directions menu.
